Tidbit on Turban Liar thoughts on S&C
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/30/sp...f=ncaafootball
The most crucial is Mickey Marotti, who will hold the title of assistant athletic director for football sports performance and will hire four full-time strength and conditioning staff members to work just with football players. <--thats nuts
“You can’t function in today’s era of college football without a superstar as a weight coach,” Meyer said. “That’s more important than a coordinator or a line coach. That’s changed.”
AG should of canned Swasey the day after we lost to BC, but then again who really knows..Swasey could actually be legit. Although when you look over other Head S&C Coaches rusumes, you see a night and day difference between theirs and UMs Sociology rubberband man.

I dont like Urban, but I think he is a pretty smart, savy coach. His comment about strength is right on and probably a key element is the success of the SEC programs. Their teams have strong kids and I am not going into other reasons why they succeed. Just pointing out that strength is a key - not the only key!
I am going to give Swasey one more pass because of the comment I heard from AG on the Dan Sileo radio show after the last game. He basically stated that Swasey's marching orders are changing to getting the players much stronger! I think the focus before had been on speed and agility in the program. I am not sure the focus this past year, but even if it was more on strength you can only do so much with players in one year. However, now these kids have many months to work on strength. I am interested in seeing the improvements / changes for next season. Then, I think we will have our answer about Swasey. At least that's my plan!

When you've got a team as weak as our teams have been their bodies should respond very quickly to a serious weight lifting regimen. If they're doing the right lifts and eating the right foods in the right quantities then two seasons of lifting should produce dramatic results. If not then something is very wrong.

Urban's been saying this for years. He said the same thing when he was at Florida.
Must be nice to have Ohio States $180 million payroll for their sports operating costs. No one spends more money in college athletics than Ohio State...that's how you get 4 full time athletic trainers just for football.

I think rubberband man is on the hot seat this year. If we see a similar season of us getting pushed around..he will be out the door faster then he can say muscle milk.

Let them finish building the new weight room facilities and then see what happens with more staff.
I don't have the impression AG is not carefully monitoring what happens with the weight training. But a year ago he was really concerned that the players were running out of gas in the second half (which they were) and getting their endurance in place was the first priority. Now if the players have the endurance and they need more strength, then what AG said makes complete sense. But he won't be sacrificing the players having enough endurance to get there.

I agree. Keep Swasey, his connection and mentoring stuff we always hear about with the players (current and former) and let him keep his current role....but bring in another 1-2 guys dedicated to football only, 1 in particular to work with the big guys on the OLine/DLine. I think having 1 expert speed coach and 1 expert strength coach works well.
