There is no mystery here. The kids now are no better and no worse. It all comes down to coaching and the last two regimes were subpar which means the teams were subpar.

Kids today are a different breed. They expect others to cater to them in work environments vs earlier generations who knew unless you work hard you get nothing. I went to an HR seminar about 5 years ago and was taken aback by the message delivered by the HR folks on how to employ/manage and motivate Gen Y (born circa 1980 and later) workers. The topic was on how managers should meet the needs of this new generation and get work out of them. Looking back it seems this is the reality that our society is faced with as the helicopter parents really spoiled this generation. Hopefully Golden does indeed get these kids to perform as all us old cane fans can't wait to live vicariouly through the team's success.

Would have been interesting to sit in on that seminar. What was the consensus on how to motivate said demographic?

Basically the HR folks told us to do extra hand holding because that's what this generation grew up on. Also, acknowledge expressively and timely their achievements. In addition, be prepared that they have short attention spans and would likely switch jobs frequently. So in a nutshell, we are screwed. The prime example of how f*up this generation is was a story on how a new potential hire brought in his parents to negotiate salaries for him with the employer. I think the audience just laughed in disbelief.

I don't think Henderson has even earned his groceries.

I read something about Henderson being walked to his class by Kehoe. Now what kind of high maintenance BS is that? Was it that time of month, was he discouraged, not performing, not putting out the effort - what?

Getting to where I expect much more of our juniors and sophomores than our seniors.

    And freshmen.

    Did I just say that????

No disrespect meant, but that list of 2013 seniors is "wow" unspectacular--at this moment. There's a slew of them who we need to ball, who can, but have yet to assert themselves as of "you'll have a hard time replacing me" caliber.
Who said Henderson was projected 1st round? Drew Rosenhaus? Henderson has a long list of medical red flags that won't have him going in the first day and probably not even in the second day. If a guy like Jonathan Martin, the left tackle for Stanford, who has intelligence through the roof, quick feet, fundamentally sound and was part of a team that was ranked very high nationally as well as an O-line that gave up just 18 sacks all season goes in the 2nd round then Henderson is not sniffing the 1st round.

Henderson's play so far is absolutely not worthy of a 1st round pick and it isn't even close.

jtaylorz, you can put me in the column of old Cane fans who can't wait to live vicariously through the Canes' success.

    It is, what it is.

If Henderson were to leave after next season, I can't honestly see him getting drafted any higher then the 3rd round. He already has a medical red flag as it relates to his back, couple that with the fact that he's been suspended for violating team rules and often times looks lazy. All of these facts gathered don't show me first round, much less any NFL scout/coach/GM. I also don't want to hear about his measurables compared to other lineman.

The following is from one web search & two minutes of copy/pasting:

2013 NFL Mock Draft … Yes, One Year Before the Draft Happens | The Big Lead

    7. Rams [via Redskins] – Seantrel Henderson, OL, Miami. Think the Rams will still need a playmaker, so I suspect if they have two Top 10 picks, they’ll trade one of them down.

Peter Schrager presents his 2013 NFL mock draft - NFL News | FOX Sports on MSN

    29. New York Giants: Seantrel Henderson, OT, Miami: The defending Super Bowl champion Giants win the NFC East, defeat Atlanta in the playoffs for the second straight year, but come up an Eli Manning game-winning drive short of returning to the Super Bowl for the second straight year. They grab Henderson, the former No. 1 high school recruit, with the 29th pick. Henderson, a 6-foot-8, 345-pound presence, leaves school early and adds youth to an aging offensive line.

2013 NFL Mock Draft: Which team will land Matt Barkley?

    22. Pittsburgh Steelers - Seantrel Henderson - Offensive Tackle - Miami

    Top 32 for 2013: Barkley headlines a class that already looks deep - NFL - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

    13. Seantrel Henderson, T, Miami (JR): He was the top recruit coming out of high school, but he hasn't always played up to the hype. He's a massive tackle at 6-8, 345 pounds, and he's a good athlete. This is the time to turn it on.

    -------------------------------

I'm not defending him, I'm saying he's had one thing on his mind the whole time: the League. I'm not saying he's ready, hence my tongue & cheek reference to announcing off of year-old projections that are bent favorably.

    Rest in Peace, theu75.
