Weekly Recruiting Wrap 6/29
This week has had its ups and downs with players learning whether or not they received an offer from Miami. The fact is, the Canes cannot take everyone, and they will miss out on some great players in this recruiting class.
--Tampa (Fla.) Jesuit WR Travis Johnson committed on the spot after receiving an offer from the coaches. He won TE MVP at last Saturday’s camp, so he earned his offer. Miami could’ve just fell into the mix with his other 30 scholarship offers, but it was the one he was holding out for.
On his commitment: “I just have been a longtime fan of Miami and they recruit hard workers who work day in and day out,” Johnson said. “I want to be that next guy in there to work hard and make it to next level. If not, I can get that degree… I have always been a Miami Hurricane since I was young.”

--Blanche Ely CB Rashard Robinson received an offer after a stellar camp performance as well. The Canes shot up his list and he told CaneInsider.com that Miami has been recruiting him really hard. The true corner back prospect, who is 6'2 and 165-pounds, named LSU as his number one school previous to the Miami offer. So, it goes without saying that LSU will be Miami's hurdle. He isn't in a hurry to commit either.

--One shocker that came for UM fans was when Booker T. Washington OL Denver Kirkland named Florida State as the school recruiting him the hardest. Don’t panic, Miami is still in it and are in good shape with Kirkland. He is just keeping his options open and should start to narrow things down mid-summer.
On the college recruiting him the hardest: “Who is recruiting me the hardest is Florida State,” Kirkland said after completing his third padded scrimmage of the day. “They are a good program, good graduation rate and a good program for everybody to join.”
On his top college choices: “I don’t have a top five or anything right now, I am open to everybody,” Kirkland said referring to the many schools that have offered him. “I am just trying to stay focused.”

--Miami tight end commit Standish Dobard (6’5/235) filled in CaneInsider.com on why he became a Cane. He plans on sticking with his commitment and has high hopes for the program under Al Golden.
On why he became a Cane: “The history of the school. When I went down there I liked the campus and the vibe I got with the coaches.”
On which UM coach he has the best relationship with: “Coach Brennan Carroll, the tight ends coach [is who I have the best relationship with]. I can’t wait to work with him. He showed me a lot of things at the camp. If not about football, he talks to me about my grades.”
On working with 2013 Miami QB commit Kevin Olsen at the Al Golden Camp: He is awesome,” Dobard said. “He is a leader. He reminds me of Drew Brees (quarterback of the New Orleans Saints).”

--Athlete Brisly Estime, from Delray Beach (Fla.) Atlantic High School, received the news Thursday that he would not be getting a Miami offer. Shortly after he committed to Purdue He went to two Al Golden Football Camps and performed great at both, but fell victim to a small class. Many believed that he would be the one to replace former UM commit and Orlando (Fla.) Jones High School speedster Kermit Whitfield. Estime, 5’9 and 165-pounds, drew a lot of attention by the coaches and was extensively evaluated before they came up with the decision.
--A name to familiarize yourself with is Johnnie Dixon. The 2014 wide receiver, who plays for West Palm Beach (Fla.) Dwyer, already holds a Miami offer and is very talented. Several top programs have offered the 6’0, 175-pound wide out including Alabama, Florida State and Florida.
On his relationship with the UM coaching staff: “I talk to all of them,” Dixon said. “Coach McDonald, I love him. He is a clown. He just has fun a lot. He tells a lot of jokes.”
On how much interest Miami is showing him: When it comes to Miami recruiting him, he said, “They are on me hard.” However, all of the colleges that have offered are “even.”
