Senior athlete Joe Jones transferred from Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic to Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade Madonna this summer. So far, he is enjoying his new home.
“I love it, I learned so much in the week I've been here,” Jones said. “I'm first team already. I told the coaches don’t give me anything, let me earn it.”
Also during the summer, the 6'3, 225-pound defensive lineman camped at Miami and had a solid performance. He received recognition from the coaches and is currently being recruited by them. Last Saturday, he attended CanesFest at the BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Florida. He talked with his new recruiting coach, Miami defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio and tight ends coach Brennan Carroll.
“I went to CanesFest Saturday,” Jones said. “I had a good talk with Coach D (D‘Onofrio) and Coach Carroll. Coach D is my primary recruiter now that I transferred to Chaminade-Madonna. He said they were still evaluating me since my strong showing at camp. They’re coming to maybe three games this year to check me out.
"Coach D was telling me he heard about me at camp from Coach (Jethro) Franklin and Warren Sapp. They say I'm a bit raw but I have tons of potential and they are going to evaluate me hard."
So, what are his thoughts on the Hurricanes?
“I love UM,” Jones said. “If they offer I'm going to commit on the spot.”
