OT Ereck Flowers (6’6, 305) of Miami Norland High School was most recently offered by Miami. His other offers include, “Buffalo, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, FAU, FIU, Florida St., Louisville, Memphis, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Wake Forest, Western Michigan, and Illinois. I expect Ole Miss and West Virginia to offer next week.”
Flowers discussed his University of Miami contact, saying he keeps in touch with the staff on a regular basis. “I went to Junior Day, a couple of practices, and the spring game. Miami came by to watch my spring game. I talk to OL coach Art Kehoe and WR coach George McDonald a lot. I’ve spoken with Kehoe on many occasions. Coach McDonald extended me the Miami offer.”
The talented tackle prospect talked about he’s seeking in a program on the next level. “I’m looking for outstanding academics, a chance to play, and a place where I feel like I fit in.”
Academics are a vital aspect in making his final decision. Flowers discussed how important his studies are to him and his family. “Many guys don’t realize how important your grades are. You can’t get to the NFL without your grades being in order. I want a good degree, have professor interaction. I would prefer a smaller class size because I feel that gives me a better chance to learn.”
A school’s location won’t factor into his choice. “Location is not a problem for me. As long as I feel it’s the right place for me that’s really all that matters.”
Flowers doesn’t have any depth chart concerns. “Early playing time is not part of my decision. I’m willing to wait my turn. If I get a chance to play early, that would be great.”
The Vikings lost in the state final last year and Flowers talked about Norland High School’s goals for 2011. “Norland’s goal in 2011 is to win the state championship. We’re going to go undefeated and win our district. We’re planning on averaging over 50 points per game and that fits into our plans on accomplishing big things this season.”
His individual goals include, “trying to elevate every part of my game. I’m getting stronger, upper and lower body. I’m working on my footwork. I’m also perfecting my pass blocking. I’m working on being able to redirect defensive lineman, developing a harder punch, and becoming a dominant player,” Flowers said. “I want to be that guy when people talk saying, ‘Man, you heard about him? He’s really good.’ I want to get a lot better at everything,” Flowers stated. “Run blocking is my strength. I have good technique, my angles are good. I can play either tackle spot, wherever the coaches want me, I’ll play. I’m a hard worker; I’ll give relentless effort and keep coming at you.”
He’s going to take many visits this summer and get a good feel for where he wants to continue his education. “I’m not going to any camps. I plan on visiting the Florida schools that have offered me. I’m going to visit some SEC schools also, see what they have to offer. I want to check out every school that’s offered me, give everyone an equal chance.”
Flowers has plans on enrolling early. “My plan is to graduate early, so a January enrollment is something I’m preparing for. I want to narrow down my choices to five this summer and then take my official visits.”
RB Randy Johnson and LB Keith Brown are currently committed to the ‘Canes. Could the trio attend the same university? “It could be a package deal, we’ll have to see.”
Flowers is high on the Hurricanes, saying that, “Miami is very high on my list. Right now, I don’t have any favorites. I want to be open and not shut any school out.”
