Down in south Florida, 5-star linebacker Matthew Thomas is preparing for his season at Miami (Fla.) Booker T. Washington High. A season that involves a series of tough opponents and a group of teammates that have worked all summer to be ready for the next few months.
“It’s going good,” Thomas said about the way his team is looking so far. He has received a lot of official scholarship offers, but hasn’t been in contact with coaches lately.
Last Saturday, Thomas took a trip up to Tallahassee, Florida to visit his brother who attends college there. While in the area, he made the most of his time and checked in on one of the schools that offered him, the Florida State Seminoles.
“We went up there to see how the practice was going and how they run it,” Thomas said about his visit to FSU. “I went to visit my brother.”
Thomas, 6-foot-3 and 200-pounds, has been subject to rumors for most of his college recruitment. The latest came when word spread about him being a silent commit to Florida State.
“I don’t know anything about that,” Thomas said. “That is just out of nowhere.”
Right now, his top colleges remain the same, Florida State, Alabama, Georgia, USC and Miami. Recruiting has been put on hold for him at the moment as he has other things to focus on.
”I am just going to worry about my season,” Thomas said when asked about upcoming visits.
