Not too long ago, then Miami wide receiver commit Levonte “Kermit” Whitfield decided to open his recruitment back up and de-committed from the ‘Canes. The 2013 Orlando (Fla.) Jones prospect told CaneInsider.com that he wanted to experience the recruiting process and enjoy what it had to offer; a process that had been stifled by his early commitment.
Whitfield, 5’9 and 170-pounds, is still in contact with the Miami coaches. “I am still talking to them,” said Whitfield. “They told me to enjoy the process, but at the end of the day they want me back.”
His interest in Miami hasn’t changed either. “I feel the same, I just want to go through process.”
Since he decided to put himself back on the recruiting market, FSU, Clemson, West Virginia, UCF, Purdue, Tennessee and South Carolina have offered him. Three of those colleges are standing out among the others.
“FSU, Clemson and West Virginia,” Whitfield said. “They all say the same thing about where I fit and how I would operate in their system. They said I can come in and play as a true freshman.”
--Whitfield won state in track this year in both the 100m and 200m. He posted times of 10.49 (translated to 10.26 because of the wind) in the 100m and 20.9 in 200m.
