The news out of day 7 of fall camp was that the Seantreal Henderson saga continues. He's not practicing today because of a 'concussion' according to head coach Al Golden. After saying he wasn't sure what the issues were Golden said that Seantreal 'might have a concussion. This, even though he hasn't been a full participant in camp since his late arrival.
The uncertainty about Henderson is made slightly better for the coaching staff because of the play of tackle Jermaine Johnson, who continues to draw rave reviews for his play. He's a different player altogether and offensive line coach Art Kehoe says he and Jeremy Lewis who sat out much of last year will play 'a bunch' this year.
“Man I got a family, I got to feed. I got a baby, I got a fiancée...so that gives me right there the motivation that I need to go out there and do what I got to do,” said Johnson today just before walking out to practice.
On the defensive side of the ball, true freshmen Tracy Howard is still turning heads. Running back Dallas Crawford says that he's already considered a team leader.
“He’s beyond his years."
Asked if it was odd that a freshmen could be a leader, Crawford said, "If you’re on the same page as us, then you’re a leader."
Crawford's now a full time running back and says he likes the fact that he can just focus on one position but that he does have work to do.
"The running and catching comes natural but I needed to work on my blocking skills so that’s what I’ve been working on."
Overall, there's a better response from the whole team in this camp than in 2011.
“I think they’re together and I think they understand that this is the second year with coach Golden and our staff. They understand more about our program and what we’re trying to do," said Kehoe before yesterday's practice.
