The Atlantic Coast Conference has announced that Mike James and Brandon McGee will represent the University of Miami at the conference's 2012 Atlantic Coast Conference Football Kickoff, July 22-23 at the Grandover Resort located in Greensboro, N.C.. Selections made by the coaches generally point to the players they think are team leaders and most likely to make significant contributions during the upcoming season.
James is the teams leading returning rusher having played behind the departed star Lamar Miller. No. 5 rushed for 275 yards on 72 carries in 2011, good for 7 touchdowns. He's being asked to carry the load this year leading a relatively inexperienced group of running backs that includes highly touted incoming freshman Randy 'Duke' Johnson. True junior, Edurado Clements and red shirt freshman Dallas Crawford will also be in the mix in the Hurricane backfield.
As for McGee, he's the leader of a senior laden secondary for the Hurricanes. He's coming off a solid spring during which he climbed the depth chart returning to his starting position after coming in listed third. After a solid spring game (one interception), McGee's presence on the team appears to be solidified at starting cornerback. McGee finished eighth on the team with 38 tackles (25 solo, 13 assists) last season.
The Hurricanes kick off their regular season and ACC play on September 1st when they travel to face the Boston College Eagles.
