It wasn’t long ago that many Miami fans were counting 2013 Miami (Fla.) Booker T Washington High School linebacker Matthew Thomas (6'3) as a “Cane Lock.” Now, the 5-star prospect named Florida State, a long-time rival of the Hurricanes, as his leader.
“I like the facilities they got out there,” Thomas said on why the Noles got his current number one spot. “The coaches and I have a good relationship. I can see myself playing there and the opportunity is good for me.”
Although he named a leader, he added that “I am still open. I like Georgia, Alabama and USC. I am supposed to be going to USC soon...Miami is in too.”
Thomas, who “weighed-in at 206-pounds” at the FSU camp last week, had a chance to talk with Miami linebackers coach Michael Barrow about the most recent Yahoo!Sports article implying that head coach Al Golden was involved in recruiting violations.
“I talked to Coach Barrow the day before yesterday (last Saturday),” Thomas said. “He said don’t pay attention about what they are saying in the media, the truth will come out sooner or later. I was like ‘alright coach, I ain’t worried about it.’ He was telling me how much they want me and what addition I would be to the team.”
He still doesn’t have a set timeline for his commitment. “I might come out and make my decision at the Under Armour game, state game or signing day. It don’t matter.”
