A little over a week ago, quarterback Wade Freebeck was participating in the Battle by the Beach 7-on-7 tournament in New Smyrna Beach, Fla. He was in pursuit of the $10,000 prize money that goes to the tournament winner. His team came up short, but he had a chance to hone his skills for his upcoming junior season.
Freebeck, 6’4 and 180-pounds, was visited by the UM coaching staff during spring ball.
“I talked to Coach (Jedd) Fisch and Coach (Mark) D’Onofrio,” Freebeck said. “The program is surrounded by an excellent staff. I have grown up liking them my whole life. I know all (of the players) like Jacory Harris, Lamar Miller, Mike James, Graig Cooper and all of them. They just keep cranking out players to the NFL.”
During June Freebeck attended the Al Golden Football Camp and was able visit his childhood favorite college, Miami.
“I went to the Al Golden Camp. It was good. It was long, I learned a lot and it was just good being out there competing. I did alright. I could do better, but it was fun being out there throwing.”
So far, “Miami, UF, Kentucky and Cincinnati” are showing him interest. The 2014 prospect from Davie (Fla.) Western High will be looking for one important factor when choosing a college.
“A lot of academics,” Freebeck said. “I focus on school a lot so that will be a major turning point in my decision.”
