The final Al Golden Football Camp took place this past Saturday at the University of Miami. Defensive tackle Devyn Salmon went there with a purpose of showing the coaching staff that he has what it takes to play at Miami. The result of his performance has Salmon expecting an offer soon.
“They told me it will be later on in the week, they said it is coming,” Salmon said about an offer. “They had camp going on, so some of the coaches are pretty busy.”
The Plant City (Fla.) High School star talked with Miami defensive line coach Jethro Franklin while at the camp. “He was telling me about how great of a player I am, and how I have great balance and feet. He said I need to learn more technique but overall I had a great camp.”
Salmon (6'1/285), who said the “whole atmosphere (at camp) was great,” is happy with what he accomplished that day. He had a chance to talk with Miami sophomore defensive end Anthony Chickillo.
“I got to talk to Anthony Chickillo,” Salmon said. “He was telling me about Miami. He told me to start doing a lot of running to get your body in shape because they work hard at Miami.”
So what’s next for the 2013 prospect? “I am done with camps. I will take visits, but I am waiting until my officials.”
His top five college choices include, “Michigan State, Missouri, Cincinnati, West Virginia and Miami. They all have great academics for one. That is what I love about all of them. I love the coaching staff and I would have a great future in the business world or NFL.”
Growing up his family watched Miami. He is very familiar with their accomplishments and likes a lot about their program.
“I am very very good with them and their whole program and organization,” Salmon said of his standing with the University of Miami. “I love the coaching staff. They showed me technique. They are very verbal. I got to see the campus but I didn’t get to see a lot of the campus because it was under construction. From what I saw I was very impressed. I love the environment, the coaching staff and players. I love the campus and everything.”
