Miami draws the Gainsville regional with UiF, Manhattan & Jacksonville.
& Jim is pissed.
It's a repeated & interesting dilemma Miami has been in over the last several seasons. When we don't finish high enough to earn a regional &/or eventual Super seed, we get terrifically screwed because of the strength of Florida baseball schools (8 of the 64 teams selected are from Florida).
They can't put us with FSU out of the gate due to the conference affiliation. This gets us a date with UiF either immediately or in the Supers. Of late they've been better than us straight up, but the SEC is not the ACC in baseball, & their overall #2 status is exceptional, but mildly inflated.
Either way, we don't hit, we won't win. Florida's staff is excellent. Could be a very short posteason for the Canes. Morris has got to get solid guys into the house, but injuries & signing MLB draft entrants have depleted this team. I know the price tag for the 11.7 scholarship rule hurts us because it costs so much to attend the U, but there has to me a way to get the performance & depth of this team up at the end of the year.
Otherwise we'll stay as a very good squad in the best state in the nation, who rarely sees the CWS.

Canes get a tough 7-2 win against Jacksonville. Score was 3-2 until the Canes dinked & dunked 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th. Miranda closed out the 9th with 3 straight outs.
Ewing was sharp. Good because UiF already has 9 runs in the 2nd, & we'll need EJ to pitch like he did earlier this season against the Gates tomorrow.
First pitch is 4pm. Not sure if it's on ESPNU again.

Did anyone see that the catch our right fielder made against the Gaytes made top plays (#1) on ESPN? Unfortunately, we lost the game.
It's All About "The U"

I missed it & the game (traveling), but Carey made another phenomenal grab this afternoon. Kept the door shut on Jacksonville after we went up 4-3 in the 8th. Kid has great instincts. Should see what he looks like with some pads on at CB.
Canes get another shot at the Gators tonight. Took 8 innings to score today, but I like our odds having already played & having nothing to fear from UiF. EJ will be on the mound, which is very good news.
I believe first pitch is 4:30. ESPN 3 should have it again, as well as ESPNU.

It sucks losing to UF every year. I made the trip up, and was not happy with the results.
We're missing a true power first baseman, we havent had that since Yonder. And whats up with Stephen Perez on defense? Sometimes he seems spectacular with the glove, then other times....
This is the lowest I've seen Canes Baseball in a while
