One of the nation’s top defensive tackle prospects, Bayside (Palm Bay, Fla.) rising senior Travonte Valentine visited the University of Miami two weeks ago to get more time on campus and bond with the coaching staff. This was his second time visiting UM in roughly a month, which shows just how interested in the Canes he really is. He caught up with CaneInsider.com to discuss the visit and more.
“It was alright,” Valentine said of his visit. “It was more of going to the college to see the facilities and how the coaches were. As I walked in, everybody (all of the coaching staff) were there to see me. Everyone was out in the hallway to meet with me.”
Valentine, 6-foot-4 and 310-pounds, liked what the Miami coaching staff had to say to him and appreciated the warm welcome. “They said they love me, they want me and I could play right away. They were just seeing where my heart was at.”
So, what is his heart telling him and where does Miami stand after his most recent visit to Coral Gables, Fla.?
“They’re still number one,” Valentine said. “[Colleges that are trying to be in that spot] are Louisville, Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Arizona…a lot of schools.”
In a recent consideration of making an early decision to commit in July, Valentine decided to wait until his original commitment date in November before making his final college decision. The former Louisville and Florida commit wants this to be his last time committing to a college program.
